One of the industry’s most unique vehicles is the El Camino, which combines the front of a car and the back of a pickup truck. While it was not the first car-truck hybrid on the US market, Ford released the Ranchero in 1957. Chevrolet’s El Camino was a sweeping success, with sales of over 21,500 units in its first year of production in 1959. The El Camino SS debuted in 1969 as a high-performance variant of the El Camino. The 1970 model of the Chevrolet El Camino SS has a V8 big block engine with 450 horsepower. Later, because of the fuel crisis, displacement and engine power dropped, and it was more focused on fuel economy than on raw power.
The production of the El Camino stopped in 1987 with the fifth generation.
However, news broke that the new generation is in development and should be introduced in Q4 of 2023. The company will introduce the 2024 Chevy El Camino with a totally new interior and exterior, and it will also use an adapted and improved powertrain from a Chevrolet Traverse. Also, there are rumors that the hybrid variant of the El Camino will hit dealerships in Q1 of 2024.
2024 Chevy El Camino Specification
The 2024 Chevy El Camino should come with an improved V6 3.6-liter engine from the Chevrolet Traverse that will be adopted for rear-wheel drive. It should produce up to 330 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. The sixth generation of the El Camino will be equipped with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive, but it should not come as a surprise that all-wheel drive will also be an option for the SS trim and Hybrid variant. According to speculation that has been floating around, there will also be an option for a V8 and a hybrid powertrain. The payload capacity for an upcoming El Camino should range from 1000 to 1500 lbs, depending on trim level. 2024 Chevy El Camino SS.
There is news spreading around that Chevy will introduce a legendary variant of the El Camino on the same date as a normal variant. El Camino SS will be a top-tier sporty variant of this hybrid car-truck mix. It should include a more powerful V8 engine with nearly 450 horsepower. One of the biggest changes will probably be all-wheel drive and unique styling. The design of the exterior and interior of the pickup will include a new blacked-out front fascia, unique 19-inch wheels, and a few SS badges on the exterior and interior of the pickup truck. With all these changes, it will not be hard to spot a difference between the El Camino SS and a base model.
Hybrid Truck
A hybrid or totally electric variant of the El Camino should be introduced in Q1 of 2024. It should come with a new powertrain from GM. Most likely, it will combine a small-diameter 2.0-turbo gasoline engine with four cylinders and an electric motor to produce around 250 horsepower. It will come with unique styling on the exterior and interior that will include a new front fascia and futuristic-looking headlights. A futuristic look should also be given to the taillights. The interior of the hybrid variant will also get a few touches just so we can spot the difference.
Exterior and Interior Design
The 2024 Chevy El Camino will be a sporty-designed vehicle with stunning interior and exterior features. Apart from the totally new redesign, the pickup wheelbase will be longer, so the bed of the sixth generation of the El Camino can be more usable. Some of the design features from the previous El Camino should remain in the modernized version, and time will show what they will be.
The interior of the vehicle will also be improved a lot from the previous version. Based on rumors, the interior will be taken from the Silverado and redesigned and improved to match the El Camino’s available inside. Depending on trim level, the El Camino will be equipped with a 10-inch infotainment screen that will be paired with an 8-inch digital cluster in front of the driver. Inside the comfortable and spacious interior, we will find a place for up to five passengers. There will be a two-zone climate control system, heating on the front seats, and a driver’s seat that can be electrically adjusted.
The 2024 Chevy El Camino will also come with plenty of safety features, some of them are Distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, collision alert, emergency braking, rearview camera, hitch guidance, and much more.
2024 Chevy El Camino Price and Release Date
The 2024 Chevy El Camino should be released at the end of 2023. The starting price for a base model should start at $32,000 and go up to $43,000 for a top-tier SS trim.
A hybrid or fully electric variant of the El Camino will probably be released in Q1 of 2024 with a starting price of around $47.000.
The new El Camino promises to shake the car world, and we sure hope it will do it with its unique styling, reliable and powerful engine options, and improved comfort and safety features.
