After more than a decade and a half of waiting, the famous manufacturer finally revealed the new 2023 Nissan Frontier. Unlike the outgoing generation, the new one is more fashionable and modern thanks to a futuristic face. Likewise, the interior is better than ever, and the Frontier features a more stylish layout and some of the additional features. Off-road enthusiasts can choose the Pro-4X trim that comes with a beefier suspension, an electronic locking rear differential, and other rugged add-ons.
As for the performance, the powerful V6 engine is powering this truck, delivering 310 horses. Like before, this engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear or four-wheel drive. Unfortunately, Frontier still rides on a frame that dates back to the early 2000s.
2023 Nissan Frontier Redesign
The new 2023 Nissan Frontier exterior is inspired by the original Nissan Hardbody pickup from the 1980s. However, the new truck offers a more aggressive and modern look with a bolder front end. Thanks to a prominent grille, chiseled hood, and more tinner LED headlights, the Frontier dominates on the front. Overall, we like all of the refreshments that it has, which makes it look more sporty.
Nissan did an excellent job, and they added a prominent Frontier lettering on the grille and tailgate. If you’re seeking more sportiness, check out the Pro-4X variant. This off-roader comes with a black grille, and it looks sharper at the rear.
Exterior Colors
Available exterior colors include Tactical Green Metallic and Boulder Grey Pearl. You can also get available colors: Glacier White, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Red Alert, Cardinal Red Metallic TriCoat, Deep Blue Pearl, and Baja Storm.
PRO-4X Model
The new 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is an off-road-focused trim that is loaded with many features we appreciate. This model comes standard with electronic limited-slip rear differential and Bilstein off-road shock absorbers. It also has underbody skid plates and a black grille with Lava Red accents. Interestingly, the Frontier Pro-X gets the same look as the Pro-4X and Bilstein shocks, but it’s only a 2-wheel drive (2WD).
2023 Nissan Frontier Interior
Inside the new 2023 Nissan Frontier, you’ll find only versatility and modern functionality. As with most of the Nissan models, you will get excellent Zero Gravity seats. In general, thanks to a good blend of softness and lateral support, the seats are made to reduce long-trip driving fatigue. For the 2023 model year, the manufacturer will make some changes to the dashboard, and it should look much cleaner than before. Also, the center stack now hosts a large 9-inch touchscreen offering standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
On top of that, there’s a ton of onboard storage. Nissan also improved sound insulation in the new Frontier, thanks to added laminated acoustic side glass and new hydraulic cab mounts. Nissan claims that they reduce vibration by 80 percent. The interior colors will now also include Charcoal and Sandstone. However, the Frontier Pro-4X and Pro-X models will get a Charcoal and Lava Red interior.
Engine Specs
Reportedly, the 2023 Nissan Frontier will inherit a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 powertrain, which is also available on the 2020 model. This engine is potent, and it generates 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. On top of that, it’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear or four-wheel drive.
Towing and Payload Capacity
The Nissan Frontier’s towing capacity remains the same as before. This truck can tow 6720 pounds, and it still falls short of rivals such as the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Gladiator. Actually, all of the mentioned competitors can pull at least 7650 pounds.
Fuel Economy
Nissan claims that the rear-drive Frontier is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. However, if you choose a model with four-wheel drive, those figures drop to 17 mpg city and 22 highway.
