The refreshed 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD has been just spied testing for the first time. The GMC Sierra HD family consists of the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD models. Each version was fully overhauled (redesign and re-engineered) for the 2020 model year.
However, for 2023, we can expect those trucks to receive minor upgrades outside and inside. According to GMC, this model noted sales growing by 23.2 percent to 73,777 units during the last calendar year. Expect all GMC Sierra HD models to be launched in the second half of the 2022 calendar year as 2023 models.
2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Redesign
The redesigned 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD is on the way. The new prototype is spied testing and is completely covered. In fact, we noticed that the caught truck features a set of new headlights along with what looks to be a new grille.
The rear end seems to be also refreshed, featuring a bumper and a new set of taillights. It’s unlikely that the manufacture will make some changes to the final variant. However, we heard that sheet metal on the box, or the tailgate will change. Riding on the stylish 18-inch steel wheels, this model is likely the base model within modifications.
Cabin Upgrades
Like the lighter GMC 1500 model, the hight duty truck will offer the same modern cabin. Depending on cab choice, there is enough room for up to five passengers. The center stack has been completely overhauled, and we can see air vents and a wide-oriented infotainment screen. From the information that we got, the same system is used on the new GMC 1500 model.
The screen is running on the Google Android Automotive OS (AAOS), which’s working flawlessly. As standard, the manufacturer also offers a 2-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, Bluetooth pairing, and a USB port.
2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Engine Specs and Towing Capacity
The 2023 GMC Sierra HD trucks come standard with the 6.6-liter gasoline V8 engine that makes 401 hp and 464 lb-ft. However, alongside this engine, the manufacturer also offers a more powerful optional Duramax diesel V8 engine that is capable of delivering 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. Like before, the base model is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission while the optional is utilized with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The maximum towing capacity in a new GMC Sierra 2500 HD with a gas engine is 14,500 pounds. However, if you choose to either a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch, the towing capacity increases to 16,620 pounds on the standard box configuration and 16,520 on the extended box configuration.
Price, Release Date
The entry-level 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD model has an MSRP of $37,895 with the destination charge. However, choosing the Double Cab price will increase by $2,600 for an MSRP of $40,495. The Crew Cab is the best option, and it starts at $42,295.
Reportedly, both 2500HD and 3500HD models will arrive next year, probably in the fall. At the same time, we can expect the debut of the lighter GMC Sierra 1500 variant as well.
