The upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon has been spied, and we can expect it to receive a complete overhaul next year. From the latest information, the new truck will be redesign and re-engineering. On top of that, third-generation will also come with a more comfortable cabin, featuring much more technology.
However, the most exciting news is the release of the Canyon AT4X model. This variant should sit above the AT4 trim level, offering much better off-road ability. The third-generation Canyon will reportedly ride on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform, and it will be powered by a 2.7L L3B four-cylinder engine with TriPower technology. Rumor also said the Canyon AT4X model would use the same engine, delivering little more output.
2023 GMC Canyon Platform and Design
The third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon will ride on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform used by the second-gen model. This architecture is known as 31XX-2 and is used with the newer Chevy Colorado. From many reports, it will also underpin an upcoming Jeep Wrangler. However, like before the GMC Canyon will be available in cab and bed configurations, Extended Cab, Long Box, Crew Cab, Short Box, and Crew Cab, Long Box.
This truck is considered as a premium, featuring a large nose, LED running lights, and projector-beam headlights. Also, headlights are complemented by flared fenders that add a bit of muscle look.
AT4X and AT4 Trims
Besides Denali and AT4 trim levels, the manufacturer will reportedly introduce a new trim called AT4X. According to GMC, this trim is above AT4 level, offering many off-road goodies.
We heard that GMC would add new 33-inch Goodyear tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and much larger wheel arches. In addition, the AT4X should provide an impressive off-the-road performance. The trim below AT4 comes with off-road suspension, aggressive 31-inch Goodyears, and it features skidplate.
Cabin Refreshments
As mentioned, the new 2023 GMC Canyon is the pickup truck that will be in the form of an Extended Cab, Long Box, Crew Cab, Short Box, and Crew Cab, Long Box. All models share the same interior that blends contemporary style with truck practicality. Stepping in, you’ll first notice a large center console and seats that are suitable for large folks. On top of that, it’s available with a 10-speed automatic transmission, as the only choice. However, as we mentioned, the manufacturer will also introduce the new Canyon AT4X model that should use the same engine. Interestingly, we heard the AT4X would deliver more output 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.
