New 2022 Toyota Tacoma is in the developing stage, and it will receive more refreshments than its predecessor. This popular midsize pickup truck is one of the best in class, thanks to its outstanding and compact design. For 2022, the manufacturer will make some changes outside and inside. Anyway, expect more attractive styling and plenty of standard features.
Besides, the new Toyota Tacoma should continue to offer the same engines as its predecessor. Power comes from a standard 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces excellent performance, while a more potent option is a 3.5-liter V6.
Is Toyota Redesigning the Tacoma?
The Toyota Tacoma debuted more than half a decade ago, and the current generation still uses the same architecture, dating back to 2005. Toyota gave the Tacoma a slight facelift last year, which involved new headlights and a few other things. Moreover, for 2022, it should introduce mild refreshments, mostly inside. Of course, some small outside changes will happen as well, and Tacoma will finally ride on an all-new platform that’s shared with the full-size Tundra.
Thanks to its compact design, the Tacoma slots nicely into the midsize segment. However, depending on trim level, the appearance of the new model will vary. For example, the SR and SR5 models offer pretty basic grilles, while the TRD Sport and Off-Road get attractive honeycomb grilles. Moreover, the TRD Pro is the pinnacle on offer, and it boasts the most aggressive Toyota heritage grille with the TOYOTA lettering. This model also gets a front skid plate, hood scoop with a unique graphic with exclusive color called Electric Lime.
First Look Inside
Though it will come outfitted with seating appointments for five, the latest 2022 Toyota Tacoma is not an ideal family hauler. This model is especially tight in the back, with as little as 24.6 inches in the Access Cab. However, the Double Cab is a much better choice since it offers 32.6 inches of legroom. With this not-so luxury cruiser, you’ll get all the basic features, even on the entry-level SR.
As standard equipment, the Tacoma includes a seven-inch touchscreen, air conditioning, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Amazon Alexa, and Toyota Safety Sense P suite. The package of driver aids now comprises pre-collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Engine Options
Beneath the hood, the new 2022 Toyota Tacoma offers a choice of two engines. Like the outgoing model, the upcoming one uses the same 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine as the standard one. This engine is powerful, and it produces 159 horsepower. Power is routed to the rear wheels (2WD) or all four (4WD) optionally. Also, it transfers power through a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.
A much better choice is the 3.5-liter V6 that produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, which is nearly 120 more horses than the standard one. With this unit, you’ll also get a choice between the 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission.
Release Date, Price
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is a popular midsize pickup truck that’s positioned beneath the full-size Tundra model. Interestingly, the Tacoma is rumored to be going on sale at the end of the summer, featuring plenty of upgrades.
Moreover, at the same time, the competitors like the Ford Ranger and Hyundai Santa Cruz should be available as well. We also expect the new pickup truck to start at around $30,000 for a base model, while the fully-loaded TRD PRO model could start at $45,000 or less.
