The most awaited electric pickup truck, the 2022 Rivian R1T, has been delayed for September. If you didn’t know, Rivian is an American company that’s been around for a few years now. Interestingly, at this point, the upcoming R1T has a few direct competitors, including GMC Hummer EV Pickup, the Ford F-150 Lightning, and the Tesla Cybertruck. However, this model stands out with four electric motors, delivering more than 800 horses.
Generally speaking, it’s a unique truck that’s ready for all adventures. According to the manufacturer, the entry-level model starts at $67,500, and it costs more than the base F-150 Lightning but is still below the Hummer EV Pickup. Clearly, it’s a premium truck with a premium price.
2022 Rivian R1T First Look
The all-new 2022 Rivian R1T doesn’t look quite like any truck on the market. This model has been recognized thanks to its unique light signature, resulting in a futuristic look. Generally speaking, it dominates on the front featuring an attractive grille and skidplate that prevent damage to the underside when contact is made with the ground. It also offers a wide range of wheels and tires, and you can choose multiple Sport and All-Terrain options over the standard road wheels and tires.
The design itself is not as divisive as the Tesla Cybertruck or an F-150 Lightning but is still chunky and futuristic. From the available information, the upcoming electric truck will be available in few color options. However, unique colors like Compass Yellow and Rivian Blue will undoubtedly make this truck stand out.
Two Dominating Touchscreens
On the inside, the upcoming 2022 Rivian R1T looks unique and is premium. Unlike any truck available at this point, the R1T offering a nice-looking design with two dominating touchscreens on the dash. From Rivian’s recent statement, one screen serves as instrumentation for the driver, while the other one that’s much bigger serves as an infotainment screen. Of course, like on other available trucks, the interior design will vary depending on packages and trim levels. The upscale Adventure model, for example, comes with a natural-grained ash wood trim, a Meridian premium audio system, and three attractive interior color options.
On top of that, the manufacturer uses durable interior “adventure-proof materials.” Rivian claims that materials can handle mud and sand without damage. The fun fact is that this pickup is vegan friendly and is sustainable with vegan leather and recycled floor mats. The storage space of this truck is highly generous, and the R1T has over 68 cubic feet of storage. The storage itself is not sacrificed at all, considering that there are under the floor (105, 135, and 180-kWh battery packages.
Safety Technology
Reportedly, the new 2022 Rivian R1T is a very safe truck. This model features many driver aids that are optional for other competitors. It comes with Adaptive cruise control that helps maintain your speed and keep a safe distance from the car in front of you. Also it has an Lane-Keeping Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and much more.
2022 Rivian R1T Battery Power, Charge Times, and Top Speed
The new 2022 Rivian R1T is an all-electric truck available with four electric motors, delivering more than 800 horses. According to Rivian, the R1T model is using each wheel individually, which means standard AWD. It also comes with battery capacity that’s under the floor of the truck. Interestingly, from available information, the standard battery pack will be able to provide 300+ miles of range. However, there is a “Max pack” that you can get additional, increasing range to 400+ miles. Charging time for the Rivian R1T takes about eight hours from empty to full.
The fun fact is that this truck will be able to achieve 0-60 mph in 3 seconds. However, its top speed is 124.9 mph or 201 km/h. Additionally, the new R1T is also a great towing performer. It has the ability to maximum tow of around 11,000 pounds, which is better than the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Release Date, Price
As we stated at the beginning, the debut of the new Rivian R1T will happen in September. However, pricing figures are available, and the base Explore Package starts at $67,500. A few interesting options are available, and you can get a camp kitchen set or a 3-person tent.
Moreover, there is also a more upscale Adventure Package that brings more features, starting at $73,000. As you can see, the upcoming truck is more affordable than the Ford F-150 Lightning but is far more expensive than the Hummer EV Pickup.
