Specialty Vehicle Engineering of Toms River will reportedly release the new 2022 GMC Syclone later in the year. The upcoming truck will get some styling tweaks from the available information, including a much attractive design and plenty of new features inside. This model is based on the GMC Canyon, but it offers more than you can imagine.
SVE first launched Syclone in 2019, and it was an instant hit. The model was offered 455 horsepower from a supercharged V-6. However, for 2022 SVE is back with a more powerful Syclone. Actually, the new model will pack latest General Motors’ 5.3-liter V-8 engine, delivering 750 hp and 600 pound-feet of twist. Also, we can expect some changes inside, like a leather package, custom floor mats, and a numbered dash plaque.
2022 GMC Syclone Exterior Design
Like before, the 2022 GMC Syclone is based on the Canyon pickup. Both models will reportedly use the same platform and architecture. Though, the Syclone will be offered as an extended cab configuration with a short bed. On the detailing side, this truck looks very muscular, with many sporty stances. It definitively departs in many ways with its mate GMC Canyon. First of all, the Syclone looks more aggressive, featuring a new black grille and LED lighting system.
The front end is revised to look a bit more like the more significant, more upscale GMC Sierra. It also comes with 20-inch five-spoke wheels and plenty of matte black finishes. On the back, more changes are present, and we noticed a new body-colored cover that replaces the rear bumper. The manufacturer also used a new exhaust system that leaves a more sporty look.
Modern Interior
Inside, the sec-gen 2022 GMC Syclone will look more modern compared to the first generation. This truck is very premium and is offering many high-quality materials. Unlike the regular Canyon, SVE will come with a more spacious cabin. This custom-made truck allows five passengers to sit comfortably. In general, the layout remains the same as on the Canyon model.
However, it also features some extras like a leather package with additional leather inserts and leather seats. This pickup has the ability and enough room to host five passengers. The accents inside are eye-catching, and you’ll find standard equipment like the 8-inch touchscreen, onboard Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capability.
Safety Features
In this department, the 2022 GMC Syclone will indeed offer more driver-assist aids than the GMC Canyon. In general, it provides the same package of aids as the Sierra model. Active safety and driver-assist come standard, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.
Safety Confidence Package is available as well but only optionally. This package adds features like forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
How Much Horsepower Does a 2022 GMC Syclone?
Unlike the first model powered by a supercharged V6 engine that makes 455 horsepower, the new 2022 GMC Syclone will be much more powerful. This model will deploy an entirely new supercharged version of General Motors’ 5.3-liter V-8 engine. It should pack 750 hp and 600 pound-feet of twist.
In general, comparing with the V6 powertrain, the new V8 features an aluminum block, custom cylinder heads, and a high-flow stainless steel exhaust. It also sends power to all four wheels via an upgraded 8-speed automatic transmission. Expect the new Syclone to run from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 sec with such a powerful engine. As you can see, the tuned version provides excellent performance.
Will GMC Make Another Syclone?
GMC recently revealed that the new 2022 Syclone would be introduced later in the year, while sales are expected to happen in 2022. Probably it will be available to purchase in the first quarter of the following year. However, according to the latest information, there will be only 50 examples built for 2022.
Due to emissions, this truck is not legal at all in California. As for pricing, the manufacturer is still quiet about it. The current model starts at $80,000 featuring a V6 powertrain. Although, the new one will come with a more powerful V8 supercharged engine that should significantly boost its price. So, expect the 2022 GMC Syclone to cost around 85,000-90,000.
