The prototype of the upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X has just been caught testing obscured by the black camouflage. As far as we can see, the new model will depart from the original truck in many things. First of all, the GMC Canyon AT4X looks sportier thanks to a new styling. It features updated lighting, revised headlights and LED signatures.
Essentially, the Canyon AT4X will be mechanical equivalent to the Chevy Colorado ZR2, but it should offer more aggressive styling language. From what we heard, the new truck will be powered by a standard 3.6L V6 delivering 308 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. Besides, the manufacturer will also offer 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel delivers 181 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque.
2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Exterior
Outside, the forthcoming 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will look sporty, featuring revised grille, headlights, and LED signatures. It will also come with a MultiMatic DSSV dampers that’s spotted just behind the large rear tires.
Like the Colorado ZR2, the AT4X has a dual-level rocker protection, which is ideal for off-roading. The manufacturer uses 33-inch 285/70R17 rubber, especially Goodyear Wrangler Territory Mud Terrain tires for maximum grip on off-road. However, most of the body is obscured by the black camouflage, and we don’t have a clear look what is changed.
Cabin Features
On the inside, the GMC Canyon AT4X will probably not depart significantly compared to the AT4 model. Both trucks should share many materials and technology. In general, the GMC offers the best-in-class interior. The entire cabin is premium, and it includes leather, premium cloth, chrome, and carbon fiber. All in all, the cabin ensures comfort, durability, and style.
We recommended stepping up to the crew cab model, which offers 5-person capacity inside. As the AT4 model, the AT4X will also come with the same 8.0-inch smart infotainment display, and the latest GMC system. Moreover, the Apple car play and Android auto smartphone connectivity are also part of this truck.
2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Engine Specs
Beneath the hood, the forthcoming 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will be available with two different engine choices. The standard model will use a proven 3.6-liter V6 engine delivering 308 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque.
Besides this engine, GMC will also offer a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel that should produce 181 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. We expect the new model to come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Release Date
The upcoming GMC Canyon AT4X was introduced a couple of months ago as the Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Concept vehicle. This model debuted at the Overland Expo Mountain West this year, and it serves as a preview of the forthcoming 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X.
As mentioned, the AT4X prototype was undergoing testing alongside the current Ford Ranger Raptor, which indicates ongoing benchmarking work.
